Do you know what happens when you eat a whole pound of jelly beans while your trying to recall/relearn some SQL? Well moi, goes on a midnight online shopping spree (I’m blaming the sugar rush – that’s my story and I’m sticking to it).

At first it was only play. You see, I like to do me some fake shopping online at times. I fill up my cart with a bunch of juicy morsels and I never check out – it serves a need. I get the thrill of the hunt without the buyers remorse. My mind is cleared, the must go shopping bug has been exterminated, and the pocket book stays in check, it’s a good thing.

Now for a little back story: I have a Noro problem, actually it’s more a love/hate relationship. I want to absolutely love the Noro but she always seems to leaves me unfulfilled and wanting. It’s not the yarn itself (oh I’ve had the wayward skein filled with knots and dirty bits) it’s me and my uncanny ability to pick the absolutely wrong colorways. They look so pretty on the outside, I (finally learned) do the peek on the inside and all still looks good. Fall in love, buy it, bring it home, knit, then cry – because once again I have somehow picked the one that is filled with more neon pink, green, or blue (have had them all) that was hiding unseen within. But you see, I know there are wonderful Noro colorways out there. I lurk on a gazillion knitting blogs and have seen the beautiful Noro’s knitted into beautiful finished objects that I so desire. For instance, Lady Eleanore from Scarf Style. This has been on my list since acquiring the book almost 2 years ago. Then last year there was Lady Eleanore mania going all over the blog world and people were making them subbing Noro’s Silk Garden or Kureyon. So many Lady Eleanore’s, so many beautiful Noro colorways – this I must have. So I started the quest again. This time failing miserably because now I was scared of the Noro. Fearing the neon shocker I gravitated towards the darker colorways now. Manly yes, (mad some great guy hats with my one skeiners) but they were lacking the depth of color I was so craving, they looked like mud. Granted mud of many colors, but still mud.

Dddu-dddu-ddu…Scooby-doo time machine forward:

One of my actual purchases last night was some Noro, and now I’m getting a little scared, and wondering if I did the right thing. Maybe Noro and I were never meant to be and I’m just totally trying to push fate. I did my research, googling my fingers off, attempting to judge my chosen colorway through all means available, but I was still at a loss. I could not decide between two hopefuls – it was going on 2am – a decision needed to be made. One in Kureyon and the other in Silk Garden, both found on the internet looking beautiful in others knitted works. A final decision still failed me, so I bought them both, and now I’m scared. Did I just buy 20 skeins of another scary Noro?

It will be okay, you see I already have reasoned out. If you can make reason with something bad (decisions, mistakes, what have you) they become not so bad, which in turn makes them slightly better, and we all know better is good. It’s the whole sliver lining thing going on. First, the 20 skeins cost the same amount that 10 would if I bought them locally, because, duh, they were on sale. The sale is what started the whole Noro frenzy fit in the fist place. Second, I did not push the buy button for the Kim Hargreaves kit I so wanted standing at the ready in my cart, and I was this close. That would have been total craziness :)

Lady Eleanore, you will be mine.

In all my life I’ve owned a total of 2 skeins of Noro, Kureyon acquired in a swap. I know just what you mean about color uncertainty. Color control freaks of the world, unite! My answer is to dye my own, but it’s hard waiting for dyeing weather (the other people who live in my house don’t want it filled with dye fumes for some reason).

See, I’ve not been burned yet on the Noro, but I’ve only bought it twice, one Silk Garden project and one Kochoran. Both times I’ve loved what I’ve gotten.

You’re just weird. But you know that. *grin*
