We did it - for the first time ever my girls won a game in the playoffs. Seriously, in the history of the school the girls volleyball team has never made it past the first elimination round - but we did it!! It was a very exciting game with some very excellent long volleys. Don’t worry I’m not going to give you a play-by-play because really I don’t think I can relive it.

We made some very serious errors but were able to still recover, but for a bit there I really thought I was going to have a heart attack or something. My heart rate and pulse were going through the roof. For instance during the last game the score was 24-16, our serve going for our game point. The ball is served goes back and forth a few times and is now on our opponents side. Bump, set, spike - we have a successful block and the other side drops the ball. Gym goes totally crazy until that darn ref blew his whistle in the bad way, not the game over way. While going for the block we went over the line and into the net. Now our opponents have the ball and their toughest server in the prime serving position. She serves, we get it up but not over. (now 24 to 18) She serves again we miss it once more. She serves again, and I swear the longest volley of the evening went into play, something like 5 minutes. We finally prevailed, and the gym goes crazy again. Sorry I wasn’t going to give a play by play, really.

Many of the other teams for what ever reason were totally cheering us on - you know how you always root for the underdog. :-) You have to watch out for those underdogs sometimes. So now I get the thrill of driving 100 miles for another game tomorrow (the joys of being in the middle of nowhere). It’s such a tangled web we weave - I am totally ecstatic that we are moving on, but that part of me, that very small part of me was looking forward to it all coming to an end. The season was so intensified this year for whatever reason. It’s been only a month but 2-3 games/week. Last year it was a couple of months with usually just one game per week. This season has really worn me out, but this is the last week no matter what, and that is what totally keeps me going.

On the knitting front I finally finished my gift of knitting, no pictures because I can’t find the darn camera, so your just going to have to take my word for it. It was not ready for the honeymoon trip but it’s done all the same. It will be ready for Tina once she gets back. So one down and two more knits started.

If you recall I recently bought some Lisa Souza sock yarn some black for socks, and some Mars Attacks for a clapotis. I don’t know what I was thinking but one skein is not enough for the clapotis. So I started scrounging my stash, because I really have the need for a clapotis all my own. None of the hand painted yarns I own are in a large enough quantity but I did find some Karabella breeze (silk/cashmere) in tan that I decided will fit the bill. Not the usually hand painted look of the clapotis, but I’m really loving the simple lines of the whole project. This time around though I adding a modified edge. The first clapotis I knit (for a gift) the raggedness of the edge really bothered me, so this time around I’m fixing it. All two inches I have done are really looking good.

I also started the black socks, you know being Octoberfest and all. I have about an inch of two toes done. It was a slow start because I was attempting some new cast on methods. I love the figure eight for it’s ease, but it always comes out looking so sloppy. It usually takes me a few attempts before I give up and just go with what I have. I then tighten the stitches after a couple of rounds but am never fully satisfied with the look. Provisional cast-ons just give me a headache. I just can’t get them to work. They never unravel for me easily for me, I do this total unweaving of the yarn myself type of thing. The LS stuff was to fine and dark for me to see, so this was totally not working for me. Did a little googling and found my most favorite new cast-on, the magic cast on. The ease of the figure eight but just with a little twist so there is no loosy-goosy going on. I love it.

On the mail front: Why does the post office hate me so. Why must they close for lunch at the most convenient time for myself to be there. Friday I received the big yellow card meaning I have a package, and I know what it is. My Sweat Georgia sock yarn won from Sheri of the Loopy Ewe is just waiting for me. I also have a birthday package all ready to send. Thought tomorrow was going to be my finally make the post office in time day, but now with another volleyball game, it won’t be till Wednesday. Ack!!

Well that’s enough rambling for now. Please send find your camera now vibes my way, meanwhile I’m checking the car one more time.

I’ll second Beverly! (seriously, I never noticed how few people post actual photos of themselves on their blogs.)

Hee.. it’s funny you mention this cast on, because I just decided to use it on a pair of knee socks (or however long they go, I guess, socks) this morning. We’ll have to catch up, you need to hear about the last 10 days I’ve had… they’ve been a doozy!
